Plenty on this weekend’s plate

Those of you who say there is nothing to do in and around Jamestown are wrong, at least when it comes to this weekend.

As to why I’m posting this on a Thursday and not a Friday is because it starts tonight with the first encore presentation of “The Purple Orchid List” at the Arts Center at 7 p.m. tonight and Friday as well. Admission is $7 for Arts Center members and $10 for others.

It’s a true story of how one local resident found love despite a nearly impossible list for her future husband to overcome.

Play writer and actor Jen Waters said she would open the encore on a Thursday and have the two runs as not to interrupt with Saturday’s main event, Hairball.

This group of ’80s rockers will bring the house down, if not with the classic songs from that decade then with enough pyrotechnics to stop the British during the Revolutionary War.

Opening act starts at 8:30 at the Civic Center on Saturday. Tickets for the all ages show are $15. However if plan on enjoying a barley pop with me on the main floor, that’s going to be the only place you purchase adult beverages and consume adult beverages. It’s also going to be where the party is at.

For those who aren’t into mullets, leather pants, and big hair, Valley City is offering a chance to see an accomplished world musician in Hiromitsu Agatsuma.

Agatsuma is one of the most skilled tsugaru-shamisen players in the world. As a native of Japan he picked up the instrument at the age of 6.

From the YouTube research I’ve conducted this cat as got some skills. If you don’t believe me type his name in and find out for yourself.

The show starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Valley City High School Activities Center at 460 Central Ave N. Admission is a free-will donation.

So there you have it, lots going on in and around Jamestown this weekend. As always if you see me out at these events be sure to drop by and say “hi.”
